Each cycle of the RBA involves substantial discussion and reflection, not only about the current medalists, but also about the ongoing evolution of urban development in America. The 2019 medalists offer examples of approaches that address challenges facing cities across America, and prompted a conversation about the “unintended consequences of success,” including a more critical look at placemaking strategies and the roles and responsibilities of organizations and people involved in the process.
