Three More Webinars Available to Help Tribes Access 2.5GHz Rural Tribal Window
LONGMONT, Colorado (July 7, 2020) – Momentum is building as more and more Native leaders apply for and gain access to unassigned 2.5GHz internet spectrum through the FCC 2.5GHz Rural Tribal Window. To help more tribes meet the August 3, 2020, application deadline, First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) is hosting another informational webinar for tribes that want to learn more about the Rural Tribal Window opportunity and application process, as well as two “Application Walk-Through Webinars” for tribes that are ready to proceed with applying.

The FCC 2.5GHz Rural Tribal Window is an opportunity for rural tribes to apply for a 2.5GHz license to build and control their own internet networks, or lease or sell it to another internet service provider. In First Nations’ first Rural Tribal Window Webinar on June 25, more than 80 participants learned about the Rural Tribal Window and application process and the many possibilities for tribes that control their own broadband spectrum.
Now, First Nations’ additional webinars will feature further information on the application process and discussion about what this technology can mean for tribes and their infrastructure. The 2.5GHz Application Walk-Through Webinars are scheduled for Thursday, July 16, and Monday, July 20, and are an opportunity for tribes that are familiar with the Rural Tribal Window to go through the application line by line with First Nations’ panelists.
All webinars are free for all participants. At least one member of tribal council and one or more members of tribal IT, planning, utility, economic development, or finance departments are encouraged to attend the webinars together, as only tribes and tribally-controlled entities are eligible to apply through the FCC 2.5GHz Rural Tribal Window.
Catherine Bryan, First Nations’ Director of Strengthening Tribal & Community Institutions Programs, again asserts that time is of the essence because the deadline for tribes to apply for the 2.5GHz license is August 3, 2020.
