Three Easton Residents Among Four Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash – Easton Courier

Three Easton residents were among four people killed in a wrong-way crash on the Merritt Parkway in Stratford early Thursday.

State Police said Steven Rowland, 65, and two passengers was headed south in the southbound lane of Route 15 when their vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle heading north in the southbound lane around 1:43 a.m.

Police identified Rowland’s passengers as Thomas Lucian Vitale and Olga Vitale, both 81 and of Easton. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The wrong-way driver whose vehicle was engulfed in flames remains unidentified pending an autopsy.

A trooper responding to the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries when his State Police vehicle ran into a parked car whose driver stopped to assist the crash victims.

The accident remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call State Police Troop G at 203-696-2500.
