Residents Show Interest in Reviving Chamber of Commerce – Easton Courier

Local business owners, entrepreneurs, and non-profits are invited to gather on , Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 a.m. in the Easton Public Library Community Room to learn about an initiative to revive the Easton Chamber of Commerce.

Lori Cochran-Dougall in 2019 co-started a Chamber of Commerce in Easton with Adrienne Burke, owner of Greiser’s Coffee & Market, and farmer Patti Popp of Sport Hill Farm. Cochran-Dougall is leading the chamber revival initiative, with the support of First Selectman David Bindelglass.

“What I see would be beneficial is a networking organization that allows businesses and organizations of Easton to have a way to connect and to know what resources are here in the community and also be a supportive organization for other non-profits,” said Cochran-Dougall.

The Sept. 17 meeting will describe the history of the chamber, gauge community interest and identify the next steps to revitalize the initiative. The chamber hasn’t been very active since the Covid pandemic shut things down in 2020. But with the renewed interest, the chamber is seeking members to join.

About 30 residents are expected to attend the meeting. Bindelglass said the Town Hall supports the initiative, and he is pleased that residents have an interest in joining the chamber.

“We have a lot of home-based businesses in town that can benefit from the chamber,” he said.

The chamber would create a space where locally owned businesses and organizations can network and work together.

“When small businesses and small organizations work and create together, they can really have much more impact,” said Cochran-Dougall.

She hopes the chamber will be able to facilitate informative webinars where people can share their knowledge with others and help the involved business owners.

“It’s an opportunity to listen and learn about what would benefit the community and then help build it from there,” Cochran-Dougall said.
