Since 2008, when it was officially recognized by the Church, the Myrrh-Streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Theotokos has traveled the world and visited over a thousand churches across North America. Millions of people have traveled to come and venerate it. Now, the icon will be visiting Saint Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. .

The icon depicts the image of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus. Miraculously, the icon has been known to stream myrrh, a sweet-smelling oil, which has been used to anoint believers who have since reported “an answer to their prayers.”

“We don’t really know why, but it is a phenomenon that we consider a sign from God,” said the Rev. Father George Coca. “It is a means of receiving his healing and mercy.”

After years of waiting, this is the second time the icon will be visiting St. Dimitrie.

“It’s a very special occasion for us,” said Coca. “People come from various parishes, even non-Orthodox, to venerate her. We have a service, a service of praise and thanksgiving, and then everyone is anointed with the icon and gets a chance to venerate it.”

All are welcome to come to experience and honor this miraculous phenomenon during the 6 p.m. church service at 504 Sport Hill Road.
