A Message From First Selectman Bindelglass – Easton Courier

Good afternoon,

Sunflowers at Samuel Staples Elementary School. – Contributed photo

Hopefully you had a safe and wonderful fourth and will continue to enjoy the holiday weekend. The sunflowers are even more beautiful this week in front of Samuel Staples Elementary School, and again please help yourself. Again, we want to thank Silverman’s for the time, effort and resources to make these plantings which brighten our town. As you are picking flowers please consider making a donation to our sister city Sviatohirsk at Ukraine Aid International.

A few residents have raised concerns over the posting of minutes for the Planning and Zoning commission. Statutes regarding board and commission meetings have evolved over the past few years in response to the pandemic. Please see the email below from Russel Blair, the regional FOIA commission member:

Hi Dave, that is correct. By the law, no local board or commission is required to post its minutes online. In my experience most local boards do post minutes, but if they are not posted it would not be an FOI violation. Political subdivision of the state is the way the statute refers to towns or taxing districts, etc.

Best,

Russell Blair

Minutes are posted outside the Land Use office within seven days as directed. However, because they are often revised at subsequent meetings they will be posted on line when approved by the committee. This will avoid having two sets of minutes for each meeting attached to the land records which creates confusion.

Last weekend I had the honor of attending a one hundredth anniversary celebration for Saint Dimitrie Church in Easton, and reading a proclamation from our town. Congratulations to the congregation and to Father George who is so active in our community. It was great to see such enthusiasm.

Last week I got a little too enthusiastic. Because of the extreme heat a little while back, the tennis/pickleball courts will not be finished for next week. Again, I will keep you updated. I dare say they should be finished shortly.
