A Message From First Selectman Bindelglass – Easton Courier

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer and looking forward to vacation. Weather permitting, we hope to open the new tennis/ pickleball courts at Helen Keller Middle School ahead of schedule the week of July 8.  More to come next week.

Tax bills were sent out this past Tuesday, June 25.  Payment is due July 1, but bills are payable without interest up to and including August 1, 2024.  Tax bills will be available to view and pay online as of July 1—vendor fees apply.  If you are mailing your payment, please include your payment stub with your check; if you would like to make your payment in person, please bring your entire bill(s) with you.

If you received a bill for a vehicle you no longer own, please refer to the attached pamphlet on the Assessor’s page on the Town website   for instructions to provide required documentation to remove the vehicle from the Grand List.

Thank you to Silverman’s Farm for again planting sunflowers in the fields in front of Samuel Staples Elementary School .  We appreciate their generosity and their help in recognizing the people of Ukraine, while adding such color to the landscape of our town.  Easton residents are welcome to come help themselves to these beautiful flowers. While you are picking flowers please consider donating to our sister city Sviatohirsk at Ukraine Aid International.  Despite new offensives by Russian forces they continue to rebuild and remain incredibly grateful for our support.

There will be programs at the Easton Public Library on July 11 and July 18 at 7 p.m., on self-care for teens by Dr. Vivian Hardison. Registration is required and please register for both sessions.

On Wednesday former Easton resident and State Senator Joe Schwartz lead a very informative discussion about town meetings. We will post the presentation materials and Zoom session on the Town website.

The Easton Police Department is reminding residents and businesses who continue to use an alarm system to pay an annual $20 Alarm Renewal Use Fee. The fee is due every July 1 for as long as the alarm remains active and is in accordance with the town’s Alarm Ordinance. Please do not mail cash. Make a check payable to the Easton Police Department, 700 Morehouse Road, P.O. Box 7, Easton, CT 06612. The cost for a new alarm is $25 and a registration form is required. Forms can be found at the Easton Police Department or online.

Thursday is July 4, and Town Hall will be closed. We will be open on Friday, July 5 regular hours. From my physician days I can tell you that July 4 is a terrible day in the emergency room.  Please be careful with fireworks.

Have a great weekend,

Dave
