Opinion

  • What people don’t get about space
Many people fail to realize that space is all around us, not as far off and unreachable as many might think, writes Anastasia Nicolazo de Barmon, a European Space Agency strategic foresight analyst. There is GPS for driving cars, communications satellites for debit/credit card payments and satellites for monitoring the weather and climate. “Space permeates every aspect of our daily lives and many industrial sectors, yet its widespread influence often goes unnoticed by both the general public and professionals in fields reliant on space systems,” she writes, arguing that space’s significance is critical to the future.
