Back in December 1958, Easton was a town of roughly 3,000 people — less than half of what it is today — and little did its residents know that a few hours south, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, a woman who would help shape its future was born.

That woman is, of course, Wendy Albany Bowditch, who has selflessly given of herself to the Town of Easton and the Republican Town Committee for a quarter-century of her life here.

On Friday, Sept. 6, friends and colleagues from Easton and its surrounding communities gathered to celebrate Wendy as the honoree of the 2024 Annual Red White & Blue Dinner.

Wendy and Peter Bowditch have lived in Easton since 1989, and Wendy became ingrained in the community not long after. A money market broker by trade, she began her journey by serving on Easton’s Insurance Commission and has served as a member of the Board of Finance, been elected to multiple terms as town treasurer, and serves as the treasurer of Easton Fire District 1.

She also has lent her expertise to the Easton Senior Center Advisory Board and the EMS Building Committee for the new headquarters coming soon, among other endeavors, and served three terms as chair of our Republican Town Committee.

All the while, Wendy has put Easton and its Republican Party on the map, forging relationships with regional, state, and national leaders and candidates to help bring their visions forward as well.

“Some nights I would come home from meetings, disgruntled, and Peter would say, ‘You asked for this,’ and I had to agree,” Wendy said. “It’s lovely to know all my hard work was appreciated.”

Wendy has made cherished friends in Easton, in the Republican Party and beyond. She appreciates everyone who came to the Red, White and Blue dinner from far and wide, including Ben Proto, chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party.

Selectman Kristi Sogofsky is among the many Wendy counts as friends. Sogofsky spoke about Wendy’s many qualities she values in her as a friend and fellow Easton Republican.

“Clearly, it’s not all about campaigning,” Sogofsky said. “Wendy has given more to this community than most of us.”

Sogofsky went on to say that Wendy “has done a lot more that people don’t realize or are aware of. She has a knack of quietly taking care of things that just need to be done. Not because she wants the praise or accolades. But because she believes in it and knows how important it is to put in the work.

“I, like many, have come to value not just her commitment to Easton but also her friendship. Wendy is a sounding board, someone to talk through ideas, and a rational voice,” Sogofsky said.

Oh, and yes, she won the car at the 2024 Easton Fireman’s Carnival — a wonderful moment, but not nearly enough of a thank you for what she has given to the town. She also received a gift of a Northstar necklace to thank her for being the Easton Republican Town Committee’s leader.

“It feels like the year of Wendy!” she said.

We salute Wendy Bowditch, an invaluable asset, leader, and friend to Easton who has truly Put Easton First in everything she does.
